Therapies Offered by Our Telehealth Psychologist (Online Counselling Australia)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is available as online psychology sessions across Australia. CBT is a collaborative, goal-oriented approach focused on identifying and shifting unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours that may be affecting your wellbeing. Throughout our sessions, you’ll learn practical strategies to challenge negative thinking and develop skills that support confidence and resilience.

CBT helps address a wide range of concerns:

  • Anxiety and panic attacks

  • Depression and low mood

  • Post-traumatic stress and trauma-related difficulties

  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

  • Social anxiety and shyness

  • Stress and burnout

  • Sleep issues

  • Relationship challenges

Evidence supports CBT for a broad spectrum of mental health issues. Its skills can provide lifelong tools for managing stress, tackling setbacks, and making positive changes.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is delivered via virtual online therapy, designed to support women throughout Australia. ACT guides you to accept challenging emotions, connect with your personal values, and commit to actions that bring meaning and purpose. Sessions focus on psychological flexibility—learning to respond to life’s challenges with openness, resilience, and self-compassion.

ACT can provide support with:

  • Chronic worry or rumination

  • Stress and anxiety

  • Depression and low mood

  • Avoidance of difficult emotions

  • Perfectionism or self-criticism

  • Relationship challenges

  • Feeling disconnected from your values

  • Managing long-term health or pain

As research grows, ACT is increasingly relied on for both everyday stress and complex life difficulties. If you would like support to move forward in a values-based direction, ACT can offer simple yet powerful strategies.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is accessible securely as an online option for women and girls across Australia. EMDR uses a structured, eight-phase process involving bilateral stimulation techniques like eye movements or tapping while focusing on unwanted memories or emotions. This process is designed to reduce distress and create more adaptive perspectives over time.

EMDR assists with:

  • PTSD and complex trauma

  • Anxiety and panic

  • Depression

  • Grief, loss, and significant life changes

  • Repetitive negative thoughts and flashbacks

  • Sleep difficulties or distressing memories

  • Perinatal and postnatal symptoms and traumas

With training in complex trauma EMDR and neurodiversity-affirming practice, sessions are adapted to support your needs and pace. EMDR has a robust evidence base for trauma recovery delivered online or in-person. Learn more at my my comprehensive EMDR page.

Comprehensive Behavioural Intervention for Tics (CBiT)

Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBiT) is an interactive online therapy available Australia-wide for people living with Tourette syndrome or persistent tic disorders. CBiT combines awareness training, habit reversal, and tailored behavioural strategies. Sessions focus on building tools to manage tics in daily life.

CBiT can help with:

  • Tourette syndrome

  • Persistent motor or vocal tics

  • Anxiety or social challenges linked to tics

  • Functional problems at school, work or in social settings

CBiT is widely recommended internationally as a first-line intervention for tic disorders, with research showing its usefulness for both children and adults. CBiT often involves 8 to 10 weekly sessions. Find more details on my CBiT and tics page.

Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

DBT is offered via secure online counselling for women across Australia. DBT combines cognitive-behavioural and mindfulness strategies to help people manage strong emotions, tolerate distress, and build healthy relationships.

If you find yourself experiencing intense feelings, acting impulsively, or facing relationship challenges, DBT provides structured tools for everyday living.

DBT can help with:

  • Intense emotions or mood swings

  • Relationship conflict

  • Impulsivity

  • Managing distressing thoughts or urges

  • Fear of abandonment

  • Disturbed sense of self

  • Chronic emptiness

DBT teaches four core skill areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. It’s evidence-backed for people seeking support to work through overwhelming or persistent emotional challenges.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is available as virtual sessions across Australia. This approach recognises that trauma and stress affect both mind and body. By bringing gentle, mindful awareness to sensations, posture, and movement, sessions can support your natural process of managing difficult experiences.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy can provide support with:

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Feeling disconnected from your body

  • Physical symptoms tied to stress or anxiety

  • Chronic muscular tension

  • Somatic symptoms related to trauma

With roots in neuroscience, mindfulness, and attachment research, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is adapted for online care and is well-supported in the evidence.

Transformational Chairwork Technique

Transformational Chairwork is facilitated as online sessions, using the "empty chair" technique to help you explore, process, and find insight into challenging feelings, relationship patterns, or inner conflicts in a secure, virtual format. Transformational Chairwork uses dialogue and role play to promote understanding, emotional growth, and self-reflection.

Transformational Chairwork can help with:

  • Unresolved trauma

  • Grief or loss

  • Relationship patterns

  • Internal critic or self-doubt

  • Making difficult decisions or processing 'unfinished' experiences

The Transformational Chairwork technique is a well-researched experiential method, supporting new perspectives and greater clarity. Telehealth sessions make Transformational Chairwork accessible for anyone in Australia.

Frequently Asked Questions About Online Therapy

How does online psychology work in Australia?

Online psychology sessions are conducted through secure video platforms like Zoom or by phone. You can book an appointment through our online portal or by calling our admin team. Before your session, you'll receive intake forms and a secure session link. Sessions are 50 minutes and follow the same professional standards as in-person appointments.

For a detailed overview, visit our Appointments Process page.

What technology do I need for online psychology sessions?

You'll need a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and a private, quiet space. We use Zoom for video sessions, though phone sessions are available if you prefer. Test your technology before your first appointment.

How do I prepare for my first telehealth appointment?

Find a comfortable, private space where you won’t be interrupted. Test your device and internet connection ahead of time. Have your Medicare details ready if claiming a rebate, and consider having a notebook handy. Most importantly, come as you are—the first session is about getting to know each other and your needs.

For practical setup tips, read our blog “How to Prepare Your Environment for Online Therapy

What if I experience technology problems during my session?

If technical issues arise, your session can easily be switched to a phone call. Our admin team is available before your appointment to help with setup, and phone sessions are always an option. If you need support, contact our team via phone (0457 427 876) or email (admin@graciouslyyoupsychology.com.au).

How do I get a Mental Health Treatment Plan for Medicare rebates?

Book an appointment with your GP and explain your mental health concerns. If eligible, your GP will create a Mental Health Treatment Plan, which allows you to access up to 10 Medicare-rebated psychology sessions per calendar year. The current Medicare rebate is $98.95 per session.

Find rebate and referral details on our Medicare Information page.

What happens in my first online psychology session?

Your first session focuses on understanding your needs and goals. We'll discuss what brings you to therapy, your mental health history, and what you hope to get from sessions. This is also a chance to ask questions and ensure you feel comfortable.

Still have questions? Contact us on 0457 427 876 or admin@graciouslyyoupsychology.com.au
